Welcome to the website of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Almatti Dam Site, Bijapur, Karnataka

We, the members of JNV Bijapur have taken all measures to make our vidyalaya, a GREEN School for sustainable development..   Since the vidyalaya is located in Almatti dam site, the staff and the students wanted to educate the local community to keep the Almatti dam free from water pollution and air pollution.
First the students had conducted awareness programme to preserve water by conducting survey and door to door campaign. We had also arranged No PLASTICS   programme in almatti by involving State Bank Almatti, Post office, Railway, PHC, vendors and the public. We had distributed biodegradable bags to the vendors, which were prepared by the students from waste materials such as old bed sheets, newspapers, magazine cover etc. As a part of pace setting activity, we regularly take the students for cleaning campaign to the dam site area. So the authorities of UKP (Upper Krishna project) Almatti are pleased by our activities and they donated   SOLAR WATER HEATER   to all 8 dormitories which helps the students get hot water for bathing throughout the year. Moreover our school was selected as top ten schools for environmental sustenance by Wipro and we received Rs. One lakh cash award for our project and we had utilized that amount for the procurement of 5 solar street lights in 2013.
Students were made to realize the need to save water and electricity. We maintain the log book to record the wastage of water and electricity on day to day basis. Students were trained to close the water taps wherever it is kept open and to switch off the lights and fans wherever it not required.
The school gained slowly its reputation from all direction. When our mission was explained in the VMC Meeting, the matter was taken up with NTPC by the Chairman, VMC. NTPC wanted to help the school for the noble cause of sustainable development and ready to provide solar lights to the school worth of 30lakhs.
To save energy 100 solar panels are placed at the roof of school building   which is expected to generate 25 KW electricity which will be further expanded in due course of time. The school is also blessed with two high mass solar lights. One is fixed in front of academic block; another one is fixed near the play ground in the residential block. Thus the school is setting the best example of using the renewable source of energy in the entire Bijapur district.
